12:46 am - Goodbye aught 4... Hope everyone had a great New Year, partying til all hours of the morning and welcoming in the next 365 days.
Well, I am back at school now. Yep, that's right. I had to move in TODAY. They allowed almost one entire day to recover from New Year's festivities and then back we went. Jerks. Ah well. I am excited to be back and to see people again. England was a blast, but now I'm glad to be back.
Well, this is just a quick note to say I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. Current Mood: sleepy

03:47 pm Have been on a long hiatus, due to far too much homework and the bad timing of a horrible cold. It sucked, but I am better now.
Went into London this last weekend, on Saturday. It was a great day.
( OMGWTFBBQ!!11!one! Tom Felton!! )
( more London fun )
Speaking of home, my dad's coming out to visit in about a week, and I can't wait. I'll be done with most of my schoolwork, and we'll get a chance to just hang out a bit.
Happy holidays everyone. Current Mood: tired Current Music: Van Helsing

12:45 am Well, my recent days and weeks have been jam packed. I have:
( I love Mr. Burns )
Tomorrow, I have fencing lessons. So excited. I have always wanted to fence- it just seems like one of those things that could come in handy. You know, if you were ever challenged. To a duel. During the Renaissance. Ok, so maybe not so much with the real life application. (Am still excited.)
Also, must comment on my sadness at the loss of Christopher Reeves. I never watched much, if any of his stuff, but he was an inspiration as a person. He, Michael J. Fox, and Lance Armstrong are three people who I just look at and think, wow, would I be able to do that? I hope so.
One last thing, to any of you writer types out there (fanfic included, of course)- when you write a story, do you plot it all out and then write, or do you just come up with an idea and run with it? Current Mood: tired

11:22 pm So, as I was thinking what to include in an update (and for once I actually had at least moderately interesting things to choose from) and I realized that I failed to mention ( my daily routine )
Watched Muppet Treasure Island today- I love that movie so much. And the Muppets in general, actually. They are just brilliant, from first to last. Impressively funny to all age groups, and funny on many levels, so I can watch the movies every so often and enjoy something new as well as the general Henson genius.
Also, have read a bunch of HP fanfic in the last week or so. Mostly pretty great stuff, though it varies from my fave pairings or situations more often than not. Was terribly upset to learn that I think every single one of the stories I read was as yet uncompleted. I mean, you get a few chapters into the thing, gewt interested, then find out they haven't updated in 6 months. *is sad*
And, I think I have fallen in love with Draco Malfoy. Among other symptoms, any story where he is truely evil and the 'bad guy' is implausible and awkward in my head. I love pretty much any story with him in it, though of course he should be snarky and still *Malfoy* in it. You know, like Spike can be sweet to Buffy or whatever, and have the occasional good intention in helping someone else, but is generally sarcastic, and we love him for it.
Let's hear it for those once evil, sarcastic, platinum blonds, ladies and gentlemen. Goodnight. Current Mood: complacent Current Music: "Hellbound" Season 5 Angel

10:20 pm I had typed up a nice, detailed response to the questions I got from fer1213 and went to post and not only did it not work, but my responses have vanished, having been devoured by my computer.
It's just that feeling of having taken time to do something, and now having to take that time all over again to do the exact same thing. Bummer.
Le sigh
Also, am removing comments, as I'm not looking for any response, just posting my excuse for why these questions will be going up tomorrow. I gots me some homework to finish. Wheee Current Mood: distressed Current Music: I Feel Fine by Riddlin' Kids, vid by Xandra

06:07 pm I have officially survived over an entire week in England. And how!!
Our little center is right in the heart of town, nicely situated so it's easy to get the necessities and to go shop when needed. Everyone here is nice, most are fun and interesting, and it's been great fun so far. Lectures are surprisingly intersting, and the workload is (for now at least) very manageable. In fact, I've been able to go out pretty much every night, even if just for a bit. That's another nice thing about being right in the city- you have like a 5 minute walk, max, to a variety of pubs or other evening venues.
The pubs are wonderful- many of them and nice and cozy. And the people around here and who end up in the pubs in the evening are soooo interesting. People here have life stories like those movies are made of. I've already heard some really great ones, and I'll put them on here when I get a chance. The atmosphere is also awesome- a mix of intellectual, city, and just Britain in general.
Shopping in general, especially for food, leaves a bit to be desired. "Logical organization" is apparently an American concept, as food in the grocery store can only be found by walking up and down every aisle until you are fortunate enough to come upon something you threaten into being edible. For example, the eggs are kept in an ailse in the middle of the supermarket (its actually quite tiny). How very salmonella of them.
And now, lucky you, it's Picture Time! We've so far had two days of field trips, which have been wonderful and intersting and beautiful. First we went to Gloucester Cathedral and Berkeley Castle. Gloucester Cathedral is this incredibly gorgeous and huge church. You can actually see the changing history, just in looking at the building, because it was added on to in the stlye of the types every few centuries.
( Picture pages!! )
Oh, and also? Everyone must go to theohara's journal and read her absolutely amazing Buffy fics. I mean, a-MAZing. I just started reading her like last week (on a rec from fer1213, who also writes wonderful Buffy fic- go read her 'Third Chances' WIP right now as well. Charming and spot on Buffy voice, great plot, and SPIKE!) and I was swept up. I had things to do, and she made me get off track with her greatness. She has mastered every character's voice at a level rarely seen, and the plots are intriguing and exciting. I can't even put into words how awesome they are. All I can say is that it is Buffy fic the way it was meant to be written, and it's hardly ever written this well. 'As the Romans Do' is the farthest along fic, combining Buffy and Angel goodness. 'Every Night I Save You' made me cry, it's so beautiful. The only complaint I have is that the fics aren't all finshed, and I'm impatient!! She is really good about frequent updates, though. 05:09 pm Finally. Made it. *wheeze*
First, the Bricklayers Society of England is doing a booming business. Every building and home is brick. All of them. Townhomes, big castley things, office buildings- brick. Kinda pretty. Really pretty, actually, but a bit repetitive after a while.
Second, it appears to be very much all or nothing. Homes are townhomes or packed together in a row. And then surrounded by a huge field. Apparently, not so big on moderation. Like, cramped and busy suburb and then poof... beautiful, rolling, pastoral hills. Must be that mentality left over from when one guy got to live in a huge breathtaking castle while the other 99.9% of the people lived in small, occasionally smelly towns.
Third- accents. OMG. WTF. It's a beautiful thing. *wipes tear*
So, overall, today's travels were exhausting and only occasionally a barrel of laughs, but. BUT. I am in England. No, not that one. *That* one. Yes, that England. Terribly excited to be here, and I know I'm going to have loads of fun. (That one's for you, Dannyboy!)

11:49 am First of all-
Happy Birthday Thanks for sharing your wonderful vids and for being such an all around sweetheart and great lj friend. You're the best! In other news, I'm getting ready to fly out on Thursday. Wow. It's coming up quickly. Also kinda wierd, because it's one of those things that I've looked forward to for so long that I can't believe it's actually going to finally happen. You know how that goes? Anyway, mucho excitement at the idea of it finally getting to England.
While packing and preparing to leave, I went shopping the other day and found a cute pair of boots. Then another. And another. And then some cute tennis shoes (imagine Hermione's shoes in PoA, but all black). When all was said and done I left with 5 new pairs of footwear. Most of them were on sale, though, so I couldn't help myself. I finally found some great high black boots with more than a toothpick for a heel. And, because I have looked for shoes like this forever, I got black ones and brown ones, and felt totally justified because they will go with completely different outfits. *happy sigh* A very fulfilling shoe shopping experience.
And I'm done with work for the summer, yesterday being my last day. Now I can focus on making sure I have everything I'm going to need or that I don't want to buy once I get there, and seeing people one last time before I leave. Next item of importance on the agenda: pick out DVD's and CD's to bring with. Current Mood: bouncy

12:49 pm What a difference a day makes. Having recently turned 21, I'd like to comment on how cool it is to be able to order the occasional drink, or at the very least go to a bar or bar/grill place at night just to hang out and grab a snack. It was fun to have a birthday again where something noticably changed other than just a number. Turning 21 is a cool feeling- it just kind of opens options that weren't there before. And it's good that I can feel a difference, since the next (and final?) change I have coming up is being able to drive a rental car. And honestly, not that concerned with that opportunity.
Oh! Other cool news (for me at least)- got a laptop! ( It's so pretty! )

02:28 pm So, went and saw I, Robot yesterday. It was excellent! Within the first, oh, five to ten minutes of the movie we had Will Smith in the shower. ( Mini rant about shower scenes. ) Overall I thought the way they put the movie together was pretty great- it is one of the lesser used concepts for a movie, and I thought they spun it nicely, giving it a fresh feel. The fact that its based on a book by a genius doesn't hurt either. Probably best thing about the movie, though, was Will. I don't think it would have been nearly as good without him- I love his presence on-screen and his great sense of humor.
( For those of you who have also seen the movie )
Well, that's all the news that fit to print for me today. And, since I know you're all in terrible suspense, 7 days till I turn 21. 6 1/2 days till I hit the bars. ;D Any favorite drink recs? 09:12 am - Attn: AtS/BtVS Fans As you know, in the worst move since the Titanic set sail without enough lifeboats, the WB cancelled Angel (though the real stand up chaps at the studio are now whining about it being someone else's fault). Like some crazy TV Nazi, they informed us 'No season 6 for you!'

And one of the cooler things I've found, in regards to the great gaping hole left by NO SEASON 6, is a site called <a href="http://heroes.councilofwatchers.com" title="Heroes" target="_blank">Heroes</a>. <lj-cut text="The site is home to a great concept...">The site is home to a great concept, one I know I've seen a version of in the works here on lj. Basically, its season 6, but it brings together the Scoobies and the surviving ex-employees of Wolfram and Hart. They have weekly 'episodes' that 'air' every Tuesday, written in story form as opposed to script form. They supplement these episodes and add a dimension by also having each character own and post into a livejournal of their own. Basic RPG stuff, but very cool.
This site and its contents are being recommended not only for the cool concept, but because they're doing a great job. Picking up after the NFA cliffhanger and then bringing the Scoobies in isn't the easiest task, as some of you fic writers probably know. The group who is in charge of Heroes is doing a brilliant job with all aspects- characters are in character, good dialogue and situations, and they even manage the difficult (I think) task of having an episodic story arc as well as a gentle progression of events through several episodes.</lj-cut> <lj-cut text="Bonus feature"><b>Bonus feature</b>- once at the site, click on Fic Archives. 04:17 pm Yes, this is my first post in forever. Yes, I am ashamed of that fact. Yes, I promise to be better about updating. No, I cannot explain why I have been gone, as I am currently in negotiations to turn my exploits into a bestselling book and a blockbuster trilogy. (OK, so this is stretching it a lie.)
In a tiny shield of self defense, I have been commenting on other journals...a little. But now here I am, and coupled with my shame is two months worth of thinking about what I could be posting if I had a chance. So look out world.
One thing I ended up thinking about is the different types of journal there are out there- you know, some are mainly daily event logs of a person's life, some are for entertainment, most are somewhere in between to varying degrees. And I was wondering, what do people prefer? *Do* people prefer either? ( Fascinating! I'm dying to know how more about what *you* think, bt!) )
Also, Warning to those people who are on my friends list: I plan on plugging your stuff (ie vids, iconses, fics, etc.) on here. Free of charge. Because I just love it. And want others to share the love. If you don't want to have undue attention drawn to your undertakings, please let me know so as not to offend.

10:39 pm After a long hiatus, in which my RL has very irritatingly become full and interrupted my online-verse, I finally find myself with time to update my lj.
Its been an interesting week, with softball ruling much of my life and free time, and if you'll take my word that this is a common, daily theme with me right now I'll spare you the details. Allow me one example though- my team packed up and left at 9 AM so we could drive 4 and 1/2 hours to our game, and when we arrived we were greeted with frigid air and a blustery wind. We played two freezing cold games, and then hopped back on the bus to return home around midnight. Blah. Worst part is while we were freezing to bits, it was apparently quite a beautiful day here on campus. Le sigh.
Some good news- am feeling much recovered from a very serious case of partying with the friends that occured earlier in the week. Also, got to go see Romeo and Juliet at the Guthrie, which was very good, except for the acting by Romeo and Juliet themselves, which is kinda key, really. The rest of the cast did quite well, but those two characters were a bit shallow.
And, here's a little thing I got that might interest any of you who were born in or right before the 80's. ( I remember like i was yesterday... )
Anyway, have a great weekend all, and a Happy Easter. Hopefully you all get a few days off to rest and relax like I do (though I do hope that none of you have as much work to catch up on as I do ...)
PS- My mood right now is not really 'exanimate,' but I am completely curious as to what a little 'exanimate' kitty will look like. Current Mood: exanimate Current Music: Headstrong by Trapt

March 30th, 2004
01:36 pm Well, I'm back. And it's nice to be home, except for the whole frigidness of the weather and the suck that is all the work I have to do. But able to overpower even the most heinous schedule and chilliest wind is our faithful friend- the internet. You don't realize (at least I didn't) how tied you are to an online world and people until you're gone for a week with no internet access.
And now for something completely different! Several exciting things occured once I got back and was able to hop onto my comp:
1) New story chapters!!
From the insanely talented Lori ( madlori) there was a brand-spanking new chapter of Hero With a Thousand Faces, the third installment of the Paradigm of Uncertainty trilogy. It's genius waiting for your perusal. If any of you are Harry Potter fanfic lovers, you probably either know about this story already, or ( should. ) And of course, the wonderful fer1213 posted not only 2 more chapters of her awesome "When we Fight," but a Bad!Fic that was so incredible I scared my roommate by laughing out loud at my computer so many times. Go to her, and revel in the beauty that is fer's Spuffy, whether serious or not, its always great.
2) New Harry Potter Trailer- this is a-mazing!
I squeed like the fangirl I am while watching this one. Only 65 days left till PoA comes out and I can't wait!!!! You absolutely must watch this, it is awesome. That Dan Radcliffe is such a little hottie! And Harry is such a stud, getting all angry and stuff. Definate turn on. Hermione also rocks my socks when she yells at Malfoy and gives him the what for. Only gripe at all for what looks to be an incredible movie- the wimpy little guy they got to play Lupin. I mean honestly.
So, needless to say I'm a little excited about the HP fandom again. My ferver was waning a little in the wake of my having discovered Buffy and Angel about 2-3 months ago. I mean, thats a lot of stuff to catch up on, and its oh-so-wonderful. But my very first love, and fandom, was Harry. And you probably never lose that bond. Its like smoking weed, right? I don't smoke, though I know some people who do, and doesn't everyone say you can never get a high like your first? Only maybe this is a little healthier than smoking. At least in terms of not killing brain cells. (Some of my friends would have some strong words to say about the healthiness of my fandom addictions. But what do they know, really? Poor, reality-locked friends....)
Anyway, to make a long story short (too late), I'm back, and have brought with me a returned enthusiasm for the HP fandom. Overall, its been a good day ;D
PS- I made my first icon! Its the HP one you see here. Pales desperately in comparison to what you all can turn out, but its not bad for 5 minutes with my Paint program. Current Mood: chipper

12:13 am - Leaving On a Jet Plane Well, the week is finally friggin' over. *faints**revives* About. Damn. Time. Had a bit of a long week, lots of testing and papers and way over-working my brain. But no longer! I'm off for the week to warmer weather, fun in the sun, and a degree of relaxation.
Hmmm....would like to say more, but brain has officially gone on strike. Bummer. Ah well, won't need it for a bit.
Question of the Week: Anyone watched Wonderfalls? I'm interested to see what others think about it. Personally, I'm not sure I've seen enough to make up my mind. Although, I watched the encore last night, and there were some great lines. ( Like when... )

Things Yet to Do: 1) softball practice 2) organize big ice cream festivities for the evening
I'd like to point out the number of huge (and evil) things I am now done with. *pride* There is still much to be done, but I have about half as many things to worry about now. Hooray! *throws party for self which all are invited to*
I can now get around to the important things in life, like reading fer1213's Spuffy story.

Ah well. That which doesn't kill us makes us stronger, right? RIGHT??
The weekend wasn't all bad, though. It was overall not nearly as long as I would have wished, but I managed to squeeze in some bright spots. Nothing terribly interesting or exciting happened, and usually that would be enough for me to NOT go on about it, cuz, really, it was a rather dull few days. But I need to fool my homework into thinking I'm terribly busy at the moment. ( So... )

09:56 pm - A moment of silence ::sigh:: Feeling a little emptier tonight...no Angel. Stupid WB. And they left us with so much on the line- what's up with Fred/Illyeria and Wes? He got over the whole 'you destroyed the woman I loved from the inside out' thing rather quickly, don't you think? How do Angel and the rest feel about Wes appartently taking F/I under his wing? What's going to happen to Gunn now? Arg! So many questions, so much impatience. And I want to see more Angel/Spike interaction- I love the way those two banter. Its takes several centuries to have witty repartee that dazzling.
So tonight I will have to console myself with some earlier, lighter episodes. Perhaps its Smile Time, or maybe I'm Hellbound (I love the fact that we get so much Spike in this one, and even some nekkid!Spike! Grrrrowl.) Happy rerun watching. Current Mood: okay

11:37 pm - Let the fun begin Well, I freakin' finally got myself a journal. ::proud:: Of course, I most certainly do not have the time for such a thing, but I intend on using it anyway. Possibly in part because I have no time, and I like making things.....interesting. Like right now I should be doing any one of my many assignments or taking care of some responsibility, most specifically the rather momunmental Chaucer paper I have due on Friday. But no, instead, here I am, sharing glimpses of my life with you, my valued reader. So enjoy. No really, you better appreciate this, or I'm on my way over. So. ENJOY. Now that you're comfy, at ease, and no doubt charmed by my rather winning personality, I'd like to tell you a fun story that will make your day and firmly cement your loyalty to me. However, I haven't got one. Yet. Make no mistake, I intend to fill this journal with witticisms and good times, but its late, and I have far too much work to do tonight. You will have to come back again if you want a breathtakingly witty and hilarious anecdote. So do. Come back again, that is.
